Potsdam/Berliner Jungs schließen Kids Final als Siebter ab und bestaunen die besten Wasserball-Klubs der Welt
Mit unzähligen Eindrücken im Gepäck kehrten 14 Nachwuchs-Wasserballer aus der Region Potsdam/Berlin vom Kids Final in Budapest zurück. Dieses internationale U15-Turnier wird traditionell im Rahmen des Champions League Final Six ausgetragen. 14 Teams auf sieben Nationen fanden in diesem Jahr den Weg in die ungarische Metropole, darunter der OSC Potsdam als einziges deutsches Team.
Um eine möglichst schlagkräftige Mannschaft zu entsenden, verstärkte sich das Potsdamer Team mit sechs der besten Berliner Athleten des geforderten Jahrgangs 2001 aus den Vereinen Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 und SG Neukölln. „Bei solchen Projekten müssen wir die Vereinsgrenzen überwinden, und das ist eindrucksvoll gelungen“, schwärmte Potsdams Trainer André Laube, der zusammen mit Dr. Lars Götz die Mannschaft über die vier Tage hinweg in Budapest betreute. „Die Jungs haben sich von Anfang an super verstanden, sowohl im als auch außerhalb des Wassers.“
Bis in den frühen Nachmittag hinein spielten die U15-Jungs auf zwei Spielfeldern im beeindruckenden „Alfréd Hajós“-Komplex und konnten dann die Partien der sechs besten Vereinsmannschaften der Welt bestaunen. Vor bis zu 8.000 Zuschauern spielte sich das Final Six ab, das mit Jug Dubrovnik (CRO) vor Olympiacos Piraeus (GRE), Szolnoki VSC (HUN), Pro Recco Genua (ITA), C.N.A. Barceloneta (ESP) und Egeri VK (HUN) einen überraschenden Sieger fand. „Schon diese Kulisse war schlichtweg für alle Beteiligten beeindruckend, aber natürlich auch die sportliche Klasse dieser Mannschaften“, so Laube.
Verstecken musste sich aber auch die Potsdam/Berliner Auswahl nicht. Mit einem 14:2 (2:1, 5:0, 1:1, 6:0) gegen den Budapester Stadtteilclub Oázis SC fand das Laube-Team sehr gut ins Turnier, musste sich aber gegen Szolnoki Dózsa mit 6:12 (4:3, 0:2, 1:3, 1:4) geschlagen geben. In der Partie um den 2. Platz der Vorrunde siegte Potsdam mit einem 7:4 (3:1, 3:2, 1:1, 0:0) gegen den OSC-Újbuda Budapest und qualifizierte sich für die Runde um die Plätze fünf bis acht.
Im dortigen Duell mit dem Nachwuchs des Champions League-Gewinners Dubrovnik schlugen sich die Jungs von der Havel mehr als achtbar und hielten lang gegen. Mit 3:2 konnte sogar das erste Viertel noch gewonnen werden, am Ende hieß es aber 5:10 (3:2, 0:3, 2:3, 0:2) aus Sicht der Potsdamer.
Eine ganz besondere Ehre wurde dem deutschen Team dann am Finaltag zuteil. Die Platzierungsspiele wurden im Becken des Champions League-Wettbewerbes ausgetragen. In der hartumkämpften Partie um den siebten Rang fand Potsdam gegen Galatasaray Istanbul mit 11:9 (2:2, 2:3, 4:3, 3:1) das bessere Ende und einen tollen Turnierabschluss. Bester Schütze dieser Partie war Sascha Seifert mit vier Treffern, vor Hendrik Walter (3), Sascha Ufnal (2), Felix Korbel (1) und dem Spandauer Leon Achterberg (1).
Gewonnen wurde das Turnier von der ungarischen U14-Nationalmannschaft, die die U15-Auswahl der USA mit 12:5 beherrschte. Bronze holte Szolnok mit einem 10:8-Erfolg im ungarischen Duell gegen Eger.
