Millimeter-Entscheidung im Stadionbad, aber nicht das „Wunder“: Waspo 98 Hannover siegte im Viertelfinal-Rückspiel des Euro Cups (entspricht der Europa League im Fußball) gleich mit 13:8 (2:4, 5:1, 4:3, 2:0) gegen den ungarischen Vertreter Szegedi VE, musste nach der 3:9-Auswärtsniederlage im Hinkampf dennoch knapp die Segel streichen. Vize-Weltmeister Aleksandar Radovic (Montegro) war mit drei Treffern erfolgreichster Werfer unter gleich acht Waspo98-Torschützen.
Der Gastgeber hatte in der 27. Minute beim 13:8 durch Radovic erstmals eine Fünf-Tore-Führung erspielt, ließ aber die letzten drei Torchancen zum durchaus möglichen Fünfmeterwerfen ungenutzt. Neben Radovic (3) trafen Mate Balatoni, Bence Toth, Pere Estrany (alle), Marin Ban, Bojan Paunovic und Erik Bukowski.
