In den letzten Wochen zeigte der Wasserball-Nachwuchs des OSC Potsdam auf nationaler Bühne, was in ihm steckt. Ende Oktober wurde die U15 (Jahrgang 2000 und jünger) in Duisburg ungeschlagen Deutscher Meister. Zuvor sicherte sich die U19 und U17 des Vereins bereits jeweils Silber in den deutschen Wettbewerben.
Nun hat am Sonnabend wieder der Nachwuchs der Abteilung Wasserball im OSC Gelegenheit, sich zu präsentieren und zu messen. In der inzwischen 19. Auflage des MBS-Wasserball-Weihnachtsturniers werden in 36 Partien (!) auf zwei Spielfeldern jeweils neun U13- (Jahrgang 2003 und jünger) und U15-Mannschaften (Jg. 01/02) um die von der Mittelbrandenburgischen Sparkasse gesponserten Weihnachtspokale wetteifern. 12 Uhr wird mit dem ersten Balleinwurf traditionell die größte breitensportliche Wasserball-Veranstaltung Brandenburgs eröffnet.
„Die Teilnehmerfelder waren nach der Ausschreibung im September nach wenigen Tagen voll besetzt“, zeigt sich André Laube, Sportlicher Leiter bei den OSC-Wasserballern, begeistert. „Wir mussten leider sehr vielen Vereinen absagen, da einfach kein Platz mehr da war.“ Beide Altersklassen-Turniere um die Sparkassen-Cups werden zunächst in Vorrunden-Gruppen ausgetragen. Neben den gastgebenden Potsdamern gehen in der U15-Konkurrenz die Wasserfreunde Spandau 04, SG Neukölln, HSG Warnemünde, Wasserfreunde Fulda sowie der SV Halle, SC Chemnitz, 1. FC Nürnberg und SV Lünen 08 an den Start. „Für viele Vereine ist das Potsdamer Weihnachtsturnier eine gute Gelegenheit, ihren Leistungsstand für die neue Saison zu überprüfen und zu vergleichen“, meint Harry Volbert, 2. Vorsitzender der Wasserball-Abteilung. In den vergangenen Jahren hätte es laut Volbert immer hochklassige Spiele gegeben. Schließlich seien etliche der besten Jugend-Vereine Deutschlands am Start. So haben mit Spandau 04, Neukölln und dem OSC drei Nachwuchsmannschaften gemeldet, deren Herrenteams in der 1. Bundesliga spielen.
Offen wird es sicher wieder im U13-Wettbewerb zugehen. „In diesem Feld einen Favoriten hervorzuheben, ist unheimlich schwer. Hier kann wirklich jeder jeden schlagen“, schätzt Trainer Gregor Karstedt. Bei den „Kleinen“ stünde ohnehin in erster Linie der Spaß im Vordergrund, so Karstedt weiter. Auch hier hat der Berliner Bundesliga-Nachwuchs aus Neukölln und Spandau gemeldet. Komplettiert wird das Feld durch den Erfurter SSC, Wolfenbütteler SV, den SWV Plauen, Fulda, Halle und Lünen.
Trotz der sportlichen Ziele, mit denen alle Mannschaften anreisen, steht die Freude am Spielen an erster Stelle. Wie auch in den letzten Jahren stellt das Freundschaftsturnier des OSC den freudigen und würdigen Abschluss der Saison dar.
