Der SSV Esslingen trifft am kommenden Samstag um 15.30 Uhr im Inselbad Untertürkheim auf die White Sharks Hannover. Für beide Teams ein richtungsweisendes Spiel, wollen sie den Anschluss nach oben nicht aus den Augen verlieren.
Nach vier Spielen hat der SSVE erst einen Punkt auf der Habenseite. Daher kann durchaus von einem holprigen Saisonstart gesprochen werden und der Druck auf die Mannschaft vor dem Duell mit den noch punktlosen Hannoveranern wächst, denn nach den neuen Regeln kommen nur die ersten sechs Teams in die PlayOffs, der achtplatzierte der ProA-Gruppe steigt direkt in die ProB-Gruppe ab, der Siebte muss in die Relegation mit dem Zweiten aus der ProB. Daher kommt es SSVE-Trainer Bernd Berger gerade recht, dass sich die meisten seiner zuletzt nicht einsatzfähigen Spieler zurückgemeldet haben, lediglich Hugo Velazquez wird am Samstag definitiv fehlen: „Endlich wieder ein Heimspiel. Wir müssen dieses Spiel gewinnen, was kein Spaziergang wird“, erwartet der Coach ein schweres Match. Auch Co-Trainer und Kapitän Heiko Nossek wird seinem Team wieder im Wasser zur Verfügung stehen: „Ein Sieg ist Pflicht! Es gibt keine Ausreden oder sonstiges. Wir sind die bessere Mannschaft und werden dies auch zeigen.“ Durch seine Rückkehr erwartet sich die Mannschaft vor allem im Angriff mehr Variabilität und damit mehr Gefahr für das gegnerische Tor.
Während die Esslinger Wasserballer mit einem Unentschieden zuhause in die Saison starteten, es in Uerdingen eine knappe, in Potsdam und bei Waspo Hannover deutliche Niederlagen setzte, unterlagen die Sharks bei ihrem Stadtrivalen Waspo Hannover ebenfalls deutlich, erzielten dann aber beim 9:11 zuhause gegen Duisburg und beim 4:11 in Spandau gute Ergebnisse, ohne allerdings wirklich zählbares zu erreichen. In der vergangenen Saison gab es das Duell zwischen den Süd- und den Norddeutschen gleich drei Mal: zuhause gaben die Esslinger nach einer 8:3-Führung den sicher geglaubten Sieg noch aus der Hand und mussten sich mit einem 9:9-Unentschieden begnügen. In Hannover brachte der SSVE dann jedoch seine Führung über das ganze Spiel über auch ins Ziel und verließ mit 11:7 als Sieger das Becken. Ebenfalls siegreich waren die Esslinger bei der abschließenden Partie um Platz 5 auf der Neckarinsel, wo es mit 20:13 ein regelrechtes Torfestival gab.
Das DWL-Spiel wird umrahmt von der bereits am Freitagnachmittag beginnenden Endrunde um die Deutsche Meisterschaft in der Altersklasse U13, wo neben dem gastgebenden SSV Esslingen auch die Mannschaften von White Sharks Hannover, WF Spandau 04, SV Krefeld 72, SV Zwickau 04 und OSC Potsdam um den Titel kämpfen werden.
