Nach den ersten beiden anstrengenden Spieltagen der Deutschen Wasserball Liga kommt es am kommenden Wochenende zur dritten Runde des diesjährigen DSV Pokals.
Die 98er müssen an den Rhein zum Bundesligaaufsteiger SGW Rheinania/BW Poseidon Köln. Spielbeginn am Samstag (11.11.2017) ist um 18 Uhr im Leistungszentrum Köln.
Auf dem Papier scheint eigentlich alles klar zu sein, die Kölner verloren ihre beiden ersten Bundesligaauftritte gegen Plauen (6:18) und Krefeld (3:17) sehr deutlich. Gegen die gleichen Gegner konnten sich die Duisburger erfolgreich (10:5 und 8:7) durchsetzen.
Trotzdem will Trainer Frank Lerner von solchen Rechenspielen nichts wissen: „Jedes Spiel beginnt bei 0:0! Es wäre respektlos unserem Gegner gegenüber und auch nicht angezeigt die Punkte schon vor Spielbeginn zu verteilen. Die Kölner hatten gegen Plauen, wie auch gegen Krefeld, gerade zu Beginn der Partien viel Pech im Abschluss. Hätten sie ihre Chancen konsequenter genutzt, wären die Spiele vielleicht ein wenig anders verlaufen.“
Die Duisburger wollen auf jeden Fall 100% konzentriert in diese Begegnung gehen. Unter der Woche wurde das Revierderby gegen Krefeld eingehend analysiert und im Training weiter an der Feinabstimmung gearbeitet.
„Wir werden unsere konditionelle Stärke ins Spiel bringen und versuchen das Tempo die gesamte Spielzeit so hoch wie möglich zu halten“, so der Trainer.
Hierzu steht, bis auf Kapitän Freddy Schüring und Thomas Sensen (beide beruflich verhindert) der gesamte Kader zur Verfügung.
Ein Sieg gegen Köln und der Einzug in die 4. Runde (Viertelfinale) des Pokals, würden voraussichtlich eine weitere spannende Begegnung gegen ein Top-Team der Bundesliga bedeuten.
