Olympiasieger USA bestätigte mit dem 13:6-Finalerfolg gegen Spanien seine aktuelle Dominanz im internationalen Frauenwasserball. Für die Nordamerikanerinnen war es nicht nur das fünfte WM-Gold sein 2003, sondern auch der achte internationale Titelgewinn in Serie (Olympia, Weltmeisterschaften, Weltcup und Weltliga). Spanien feierte nach dem ersten Platz von 2013 die zweite WM-Medaille in der Ära von Trainer Miguel Oca.
Russland bestätigte mit Rang drei seine Olympiaplatzierung des Vorjahres. Dagegen musste Premierenweltmeister Australien mit Rang acht seine bisher schlechteste Platzierung in der 31-jährigen Historie des Wettbewerbs hinnehmen. Die bis dato letzte WM-Teilnahme einer deutschen Mannschaft datiert bereits aus dem Jahre 2009, als es unter Trainer René Reimann Rang zehn in Rom (Italien) gab.
