Jetzt wird es richtig ernst für die Bundesligisten des DSV98. In der Finalserie der ProB, deren Sieger sich direkt für die ProA qualifiziert, treffen die Männer um Frank Lerner auf den hartnäckigsten Verfolger der Hauptrunde. Im Vogtländischen Stadtbad Plauen feiert der SVV Plauen regelmäßig ein wahrhaftes ‚Wasserball-Fest‘. Um die 600 Zuschauer feuern dort ihre Mannen lautstark an. Das außergewöhnlich attraktive Rahmenprogramm mit Cheerleadern, Synchronschwimmern, diverser Präsentationselektronik und Lauf-Maskottchen lockt die sportbegeisterten Vogtländer Samstag für Samstag in die Halle und machte sogar zusätzliche Tribünen notwendig.
Vor dieser Kulisse haben sich die Duisburger am kommenden Samstag zu behaupten.
Im ersten Spiel der best-of-Five Serie, in der der schlechter platzierte SVV Plauen das Heimrecht genießt, wird um 16:00 Uhr der Ball für den direkten Aufstieg vorgelegt.
Die Duisburger möchten es dabei gerne so halten, wie zu Saisonbeginn: Im allerersten Spiel der Hauptrunde hatte man ebenfalls in der Plauener Arena anzutreten und setzte mit dem deutlichen 10:5-Sieg ein Ausrufezeichen.
Seither wurde kein einziges Ligaspiel verloren. Dass den einzigen klitzekleinen Fleck auf der weißen Weste gerade der SVV Plauen beim Duisburger Heimspiel, in letzter Sekunde hinterließ, als der Ausgleichstreffer noch zum Unentschieden führte, sollte allerdings Warnung genug sein. Es wartet, neben der weiten Reise, harte Arbeit und hohe Konzentration auf unsere Spieler.
Frank Lerner sieht sein Team trotz der hohen Erwartungshaltung nicht unter Druck: „Wir fahren mit großer Lust nach Plauen. Wir haben gut trainiert und verspüren keinen Druck. Meine junge Mannschaft hat im Laufe der Saison bereits gezeigt, was sie zu leisten im Stande ist. Und das im ersten Jahr! Plauen steht unter Druck. Sie möchten garantiert gerade das Heimspiel für sich entscheiden und sollte das nicht gelingen, wird es sehr eng für sie. Wir sind bereit und heiß auf das Spiel – und freuen uns sehr auf das Plauener Publikum.“
