Vermeidbare 10:13-Niederlage gegen Tabellendritten ASC Duisburg
Esslingen – Ein Spiel wie eine Achterbahnfahrt, mit wechselnden Führungen, einer mitreißenden Stimmung, doch am Ende steht der SSV Esslingen mit leeren Händen da. Mit der 10:13 (1:5, 3:1, 4:4, 2:3)-Niederlage verbleiben die Esslinger auf dem siebten Tabellenplatz.
Stimmungsmäßig war so richtig was geboten im Inselbad Untertürkheim, nachdem die SSVE-Sieben nach einem katastrophalen Spielauftakt sich wieder Tor um Tor zurückkämpften. Auch „Handball-Gast“ Jürgen Schweikardt, Geschäftsführer von Bundesligist TVB Stuttgart, sprach nach der Partie von „einer tollen Aufholjagd“ und davon, dass „die Zweikämpfe im Wasserball noch härter geführt werden als im Handball“. Und in der Tat war es ein kampfbetontes Spiel mit vielen Überzahlsituationen, aus denen die Esslinger letztlich deutlich zu wenig Kapital schlagen konnten. SSVE-Kapitän Heiko Nossek: „Nach einem katastrophalen ersten Viertel hatten wir mehr als einmal die Chance, das Spiel für uns zu entscheiden. Aber unsere Überzahlschwäche hat uns die Punkte gekostet. Duisburg ist verdient auf Platz 3, aber wir haben gesehen, dass wir mehr als mithalten können“, wollte der vierfache Torschütze zu Recht auch das Positive aus der Partie nicht unerwähnt lassen. Nationalspieler Timo van der Bosch zeigte ebenfalls eine starke Leistung und haderte mit der Niederlage: „Wir hatten es selber in der Hand, trotz vieler fragwürdiger Schiedsrichter-Entscheidungen auf beiden Seiten. Positiv kann man aus dem Spiel mitnehmen, dass wir Moral gezeigt haben, indem wir nach dem ersten Viertel wieder zurück ins Spiel kamen.“
Den Spielbeginn verpatzten die Esslinger Wasserballer völlig: in Unterzahl kassierte man das 0:1 und mit einem erfolgreichen Konter trafen die Duisburger zum 0:2. Nachdem der SSVE das erste Überzahlspiel ungenutzt ließ, lief es beim zweiten besser und Timo van der Bosch erzielte auf tolles Zuspiel von Marvin Thran den Anschlusstreffer. Die Gäste nutzten ein weiteres Überzahlspiel zum 1:3. Trotz des Rückstandes war aus Esslinger Sicht eigentlich noch nichts dramatisches passiert, doch in den letzten 30 Sekunden des ersten Abschnittes kassierten die Hausherren zwei weitere Gegentreffer und mussten so in der Folgezeit einem deutlichen Rückstand hinterherlaufen. Die Stimmung war erst einmal im Keller.
Wie verwandelt kamen die Gastgeber aus der ersten Pause. Heiko Nossek verwandelte einen Strafwurf, den Timo van der Bosch für sein Team erkämpft hatte. Auch für den dritten SSVE-Treffer war der Kapitän verantwortlich, als er einen Konter aus einer eigenen Unterzahlsituation heraus mit einem frechen Heber über den Gästetorwart abschloss. Endgültig wieder dran waren die Esslinger, als Eric Fernandez Rivas aus dem Rückraum abzog und der Ball wie ein Strich links oben zum 4:5 im Gästegehäuse einschlug. Zwar konnte der ASCD noch vor der Halbzeit das 4:6, erzielen, doch die Partie war wieder offen.
Und auch im dritten Abschnitt machte der SSVE da weiter, wo er aufgehört hatte und zeigte kämpferisch, aber auch spielerisch eine tolle Leistung. Heiko Nossek setzte mit einem tollen Zuspiel seinen Mitspieler Eric Fernandez Rivas gut in Szene und der Spanier traf zum Anschluss. Und schon im nächsten Angriff sollte sogar der Ausgleich fallen, als der erstmals eingesetzte Robert Stiefel SSVE-Center Konstantinos Sopiadis anspielte und dieser den Ball nur antippte und ihn so im Tor der Gäste zum 6:6 unterbrachte. Die Stimmung unter den Zuschauern war nun endgültig auf dem Siedepunkt, die Mannschaft hatte mit ihrer Aufholjagd ihre Fans mitgerissen. Und es kam noch besser: Timo van der Bosch traf aus dem Rückraum zur ersten Esslinger Führung in der 22. Spielminute. In den folgenden Minuten entwickelte sich eine packende Partie zwischen zwei Teams, die beide voll auf Sieg spielten. Zunächst erzielte Duisburg den Ausgleich, doch nachdem Center Novak Zugic gefoult wurde, verwandelte Heiko Nossek den fälligen Strafwurf zum 8:7. Die Gäste kamen umgehend wieder zum Ausgleich. Und wie schon im ersten Abschnitt, sollten die Esslinger in den letzten dreißig Sekunden des Abschnitts zwei Treffer kassieren, wobei das 8:9 äußerst umstritten war und für viel Unmut beim Esslinger Anhang sorgte. Nach einem Centeranspiel hatte Esslingens Verteidiger längst beide Arme für alle deutlich sichtbar aus dem Wasser, um so dem Schiedsrichter anzuzeigen, dass er seinen Gegenspieler nicht am Torschuss hindert. Doch der Unparteiische sah dies wohl nicht so und sprach den Gästen einen Strafwurf zu, den diese auch zum 8:9 nutzten. Eine aus Esslinger Sicht unglückliche Entscheidung in der spielentscheidenden Phase. Mit einem Kontertreffer bauten die Duisburger ihre Führung noch vor der letzten Pause auf 8:10 aus.
Im letzten Abschnitt zeigten sich die Gäste dann als das effizientere und auch cleverere Team, indem sie im Gegensatz zu den Esslingern die sich ihnen bietenden Chancen einfach besser nutzten. In Überzahl bauten sie ihre Führung auf drei Tore aus und als der „Spieler des Tages“ und vierfache Torschütze Paul Schüler mit einem direkten Freiwurf das 8:12 erzielte, war dies knapp fünf Minuten vor dem Ende quasi die Vorentscheidung. Doch noch einmal bäumten sich die Gastgeber auf und wollten sich noch nicht geschlagen geben: Timo van der Bosch traf aus der Centerposition zum 9:12, Heiko Nossek mit einem direkten Freiwurf zum 10:12 und das alles innerhalb von einer Minute. Ein folgendes Überzahlspiel ließ man ungenutzt, was die Duisburger eineinhalb Minuten vor der Schlusssirene besser machten und mit dem 10:13 das Spiel endgültig für sich entschieden.
Für die Wasserballer geht es nun in die Weihnachtspause und das SSVE-Team weiss, woran es bis zum nächsten Spiel am 20. Januar gegen Bayer Uerdingen arbeiten muss: die Chancenauswertung muss besser werden, vor allem aus den Überzahlsituationen muss in Zukunft mehr Kapital geschlagen werden, will man mit einem Team der Klasse des ASC Duisburg mehr als nur mithalten, sondern auch Zählbares mitnehmen.
