Über 40 Kinder nahmen am dritten Wasserball-Schnupperturnier des Wasserball-Vereins Darmstadt am Samstag, dem 26. August, im Freibad in Mühltal-Traisa teil. Kinder von 8 bis 15 Jahren spielten in drei Altersgruppen jeweils drei oder vier Spiele, darunter gut ein Drittel Neulinge, sowie einige, die in den Vorjahren schon mal dabei waren. Bei herrlichem Wetter und besten Bedingungen zeigte sich das Freibad von seiner besten Seite. Unterstützt vom Schwimmbadverein Traisa und begrüßt von dessen Vorsitzenden Gerrit Nagel, startete der WVD mit einem kurzen Demospiel, bei dem sich die Neulinge das Spiel einmal ansehen konnten.
Während dieses Spieles wurden die Teams gebildet, so dass es sofort mit dem Turnier losgehen konnte. Fünf gegen Fünf spielten quer über das ganze Becken mit kleinen Bällen auf kleine Tore. Bei den Kleinen waren auch Auswechselspieler nominiert, die man auch brauchte. Denn Wasserball kann sehr schnell anstrengend sein, so dass kleinere Pausen willkommen waren.
Die Teams waren recht ausgeglichen besetzt, so dass es spannende Spiele waren. Zahlreiche Eltern und andere Badegäste verfolgten das Geschehen interessiert. Letztlich ging es vor allem um den Spaß, den die Kinder bei der spritzigsten Sportart der Welt offenkundig hatten. Am Ende durften sich alle Preise aussuchen (T-Shirts, Trinkflaschen oder Süßigkeiten) und manch einer bedauerte, dass nach drei Stunden die Tore schon wieder aus dem Wasser geholt werden mussten. Der betreuende Jugendtrainer Robin Gossner fand die Aktion sehr gelungen: „Es war toll zu sehen, wie gerade die Anfänger um jeden Ball kämpften.“
Auch im nächsten Jahr plant der WVD wieder im Rahmen des Sport- und Fun-Tages mit freundlicher Unterstützung des Schwimmbadvereins Traisa dieses Schnupperturnier auszurichten.
