Die Viertelergebnisse verdeutlichen die unterschiedlichen Konzentrationsphasen des amtierenden Deutschen Meisters.
Zu Spielbeginn ließ das Team von Trainer Petar Kovacevic gleich im allerersten Spielabschnitt gegen die ersatzgeschwächte Mannschaft aus Potsdam reihenweise gute Chancen ungenutzt. Aufgrund einer Spielsperre konnten die Potsdamer Spieler Denis Streletzkji und Hannes Schulz das Geschehen nur vom Beckenrand aus beobachten.
Im 2. Viertel kamen die Spandauer dann besser ins Spiel und konnten mit der nötigen Konsequenz im Torabschluss, speziell durch Schnellangriffe, insgesamt 8 Tore erzielen. Im folgenden dritten Spielabschnitt funktionierte dann die Defensive und die Spandauer blieben ganz ohne Gegentor. Im letzten Spielviertel verpassten es die Berliner knapp, eine weitere Verbesserung ihres Torverhältnisses in der Bundesliga-Liste zu erzielen. Obwohl im vierten Viertel 7 Tore erzielt wurden, gab es doch einige weitere Möglichkeiten noch mehr Tore zu erzielen oder zumindest die 3 Gegentore des Potsdamer Teams zu verhindern. Im Endkampf (Spurt) um den ersten Platz der Hauptrunde kann das Torverhältnis und somit jedes Tor für die Endabrechnung entscheidend sein.
Aktuell liegen die Wasserfreunde noch mit 6 Toren Vorsprung vor Waspo Hannover auf dem ersten Tabellenplatz.
Nikola Dedovic wurde erneut zum Spieler des Tages gewählt.
Am nächsten Wochenende, am Samstag, 11.03.2017 um 16:00 Uhr, ist dann der aktuell drittplatzierte ASC Duisburg zu Gast bei den Wasserfreunden in der Schöneberger Schwimmhalle.
