Der Countdown für das Olympiaqualifikationsturnier der Frauen in Gouda (Niederlande/21. bis 28. März) läuft: Die kurzfristig für den Amerika-Vierten Kuba nachgerückte Auswahl des Deutschen Schwimm-Verbandes (DSV) wird sich am 16. März mit einem 17er-Kader in Krefeld oder Warendorf zu einem Vorbereitungslehrgang treffen und von dort dann am 20. März mit einem 13er-Team direkt in Richtung Gouda aufbrechen, wie heute vom DSV bekanntgegeben wurde.
Die Reise zu dem Zwölf-Nationen-Turnier in der niederländischen Wasserball-Hochburg, auf dem die letzten vier der lediglich acht Olympiastartplätze im Frauen-Wasserball vergeben werden, gestaltet sich aufgrund der Kürze der Zeit für die DSV-Verantwortlichen nicht einfach. Nach den dreiwöchigen EM-Trip haben nicht alle Spielerinnen kurzfristig für einen derart langen Zeitraum freibekommen. Drei Nachwuchsakteure stecken zudem in Abiturprüfungen, so dass das Aufgebot aus dem Kreis der verfügbaren Aktiven rekrutiert worden ist.
Aus dem EM-Aufgebot von Belgrad (Serbien/achter Platz) mit Claudia Kern, Lilian Adamski sowie den beiden Torhüterinnen Bianca Ahrens und Michelle Reinhart gleich vier Aktive nicht mit am Start, so dass das Turnier einige junge Gesichter erstmals bei einem großer Turnier im Einsatz sehen wird. Die beiden für den Lehrgang nominierten Torfrauen Felicitas Saurusajtis (SV Blau-Weiß Bochum) und Lotte Hurrelmann (SC Chemnitz), beide bereits vergangene Woche beim Weltliga-Spiel gegen Russland im Einsatz, werden daher in jedem Fall die Reise nach Gouda antreten.
