Es war die erwartet schwere Aufgabe für den amtierenden Deutschen Meister. Zu ungewohnter Spielzeit (Sonntag, 12:00 Uhr) wurde das Spiel im Vorort von Barcelona, Sabadell, von den beiden Schiedsrichtern aus Montenegro und Italien angepfiffen. Die Berliner gerieten schnell mit 0:1 und 1:2 in Rückstand. Die Spanier, die bereits keine Chance mehr auf das Erreichen der nächsten Runde hatten, spielten selbstbewusst und aggressiv. Auch als das Team von Petar Kovacevic im zweiten Spielabschnitt mit 4:2 in Führung lag, war die Motivation der Katalanen dieses Spiel zu gewinnen noch lange nicht gebrochen.
Insgesamt stand das Spiel siebenmal unentschieden. Erst im letzten Spielabschnitt konnten sich die Spandauer mit 2 Toren Unterschied etwas absetzen und diesen Vorsprung auch bis zum Ende bewahren.
Überglücklich über den Einzug ins Final Eight der Champions League, den zuvor viele Fans erwartet hatten, lagen sich die Spieler in den Armen.
Es gibt allerdings keine Zeit für eine Erholung. Das Erreichen des Final Eight war nur die erste Etappe der heißen Phase am Ende dieser Saison. Schon am kommenden Wochenende wird der erste deutsche Titel in diesem Jahr vergeben. Das Finale der Deutschen Pokalmeisterschaft findet in Potsdam statt. Am Samstag spielen die Wasserfreunde im Halbfinale gegen den ASC Duisburg. Im Halbfinale hatten die Berliner die Duisburger mit deutlichen Ergebnissen besiegt. Wenn die Berliner das Finale erreichen, treffen sie höchstwahrscheinlich auf das Team von Waspo Hannover. Voraussetzung ist, dass die Hannoveraner erwartungsgemäß den OSC Potsdam im anderen Halbfinalspiel besiegen werden.
Das Spandauer Team freut sich über den Besuch seiner Fans zu diesem Höhepunkt in Potsdam.
