Esslingen – Der SSV Esslingen hat noch drei Spiele in der Hauptrunde zu absolvieren, zwei Siege sollen bzw. müssen her, um die Saisonziele doch noch erreichen zu können. Am Samstag um 15.30 Uhr ist im Untertürkheimer Inselbad daher ein Sieg gegen den OSC Potsdam gefordert.
Beim Blick auf die Tabelle kommt für die SSVE-Verantwortlichen nicht gerade große Freude auf: nach 11 von 14 Spieltagen rangiert man mit 6 Punkten auf Platz 7, also dem Relegationsplatz. Bleibt man auch nach Ende der Hauptrunde der DWL ProA auf diesem Rang, muss man gegen das zweitbeste Team der DWL ProB um den Verbleib in der Gruppe kämpfen. Doch in den nächsten drei Partien rechnet sich der SSVE gegen OSC Potsdam und die White Sharks Hannover Siegchancen aus, lediglich gegen Tabellenführer Waspo 98 Hannover wird man die Punkte abgeben müssen. Die White Sharks liegen zwei Punkte hinter den Esslingern, also auch der letzte Platz ist noch im Bereich des Möglichen, aber auch die fünfplatzierten Potsdamer haben nur einen Punkt mehr. Die letzten zwei Spielwochenenden versprechen also zumindest in dieser Tabellenregion noch viel Spannung und die Esslinger Wasserballer haben es selbst in der Hand, wie der weitere Saisonverlauf aussehen wird. Für SSVE-Trainer Bernd Berger ist die Ansage an sein Team daher eindeutig: „Wir müssen gegen Potsdam gewinnen und werden hochmotiviert in das Spiel gehen!“ Nach den großen Krankheits- und Verletzungssorgen im Februar ist nun endlich wieder ein richtiges Mannschaftstraining möglich gewesen, daher fordert auch Kapitän Heiko Nossek: „Jetzt kommen zwei Spiele, die wir gewinnen müssen! Da können wir zeigen, ob wir das Trainierte auch ins Spiel bringen können. Für mich zählen nur vier Punkte aus den kommenden zwei Partien.“ Die beiden Trainer können nach derzeitigem Stand auf den kompletten Kader zurückgreifen, auch wenn Eric Fernandez Rivas aufgrund von Ausbildungsveranstaltungen in Mannheim und Timo van der Bosch aufgrund seiner Einsätze mit der Nationalmannschaft nur sehr eingeschränkt am Mannschaftstraining teilnehmen konnten. Nach erfolgreicher EM-Qualifikation gegen Polen sowie einem verlorenen Weltliga-Spiel in Russland richtet sich der Fokus des Nationalspielers nun wieder auf den Verein und die dort anstehenden Aufgaben.
Nach der 7:20-Hinspiel-Klatsche Anfang November auswärts, sah man Potsdam schon enteilt, doch nach elf Spieltagen haben die Ostdeutschen gerade mal einen Punkt mehr auf dem Konto. Eine katastrophale Leistung und die Ausfälle von Heiko Nossek und Konstantinos Sopiadis führten zu der klaren Niederlage, die Mannschaft kämpft vor ihren Fans nun um Wiedergutmachung.
