Stuttgart – Die zahlreichen Begegnungen zwischen dem SV Cannstatt und dem benachbarten Erstligisten aus Esslingen besaßen während ihrer Glanzjahre einen geradezu legendären Status im Kalender der Deutschen Wasserballliga. Das solche packende Derbys auch in der zweiten Liga möglich sind bewies der Schwimmverein Cannstatt vergangenen Mittwoch im Lokalderby gegen den PSV Stuttgart, das die Gastgeber aus Stuttgarts ältestem Stadtteil mit 18:12 (5:2, 4:4, 5:3, 4:3) klar für sich entscheiden konnten.
Vor vollem Haus bot dieses seit langen Jahren erstmals wieder stattfindende Lokalderby bereits vor Beginn des ersten Spielabschnittes eine dem Anlass mehr als würdige Atmosphäre. Beide Mannschaften hatten die eigenen Fans zuhauf mobilisieren können um von vornherein keine Zweifel aufkommen zu lassen: Die Zähler wollten sowohl der PSV als auch der SVC ungeteilt in trockenen Tüchern wissen, zumal die beiden Lokalrivalen mit dem weiter umherspukenden Abstiegsgespenst auf den hinteren Tabellenplätzen ein ähnliches Problem teilen. Ein Sieg im direkten Vergleich wäre für beide Seiten somit von größter Wichtigkeit und mischte dem ohnehin hart umkämpften Derby noch eine Prise mehr Brisanz bei. Entsprechend couragiert starteten die zwei Lokalkontrahenten, jedoch mit dem deutlich besseren Ende für den SV Cannstatt. Gleich mit der ersten Überzahlsituation brachte Evan Müller die Hausherren mit 1:0 in Führung. Auch in den folgenden Spielminuten konnte der SV Cannstatt sein Oberwasser verteidigen und den PSV, der erst nach vier Minuten seinen ersten Torerfolg durch Oliver Schmalzing bejubeln konnte, weiter auf Distanz halten. Mit 5:2 ging der SVC somit in die erste Viertelpause. Ein Resultat, das zugleich ein erfreuliches Novum für den Erstligaabsteiger darstellt: Bisher in der Saison konnten die Cannstatter keinen einzigen Spielauftakt für sich entscheiden. Und wie sie begonnen hatten, so fuhren die Schützlinge von Andras Feher auch im zweiten Durchgang fort. Näher als einen Treffer ließ die gut organisierte Abwehr um Centerverteidiger Miles Müller und dem bestens aufgelegten Torhüter Anastasios Bitsos, der gleich mehrmals in allerhöchster Not den komfortablen Vorsprung rettete, die Vaihinger nicht herankommen. Erst nach der Halbzeitpause kam das Aufbäumen der Gäste aus Vaihingen, die nun deutlich wacher in der Abwehr agierten und auch in der Vorwärtsbewegung aggressiver auf Torerfolge drängten. Diese blieben ihnen dennoch weiterhin verwehrt, für was sich nicht zuletzt eine einmal mehr couragierte Defensivleistung des SV Cannstatt verantwortlich zeichnete. So konnte die Mannschaft von der Mombachquelle mit einem komfortablen Vorsprung von ganzen fünf Toren in die finale Phase des Spiels gehen, die unter den Augen der zahlreichen Zuschauer erneut dem Gastgeber gehörte. Dieser kombinierte sich nun beinahe unbehelligt durch die Reihen des PSV Stuttgart und erwischte zwei Minuten vor Schluss sogar den Torwart auf dem falschen Fuß. Mit einem sehenswerten Distanzschuss aus fünfzehn Metern trug sich Christoph Vorpahl zum zweiten Mal in dieser Saison in die Torschützenliste ein. Diese komplettierte vier Sekunden vor Schluss Miles Müller, der damit zugleich den Schlussstrich unter den Derbykrimi Nr.1 der Saison zog und damit die überglücklichen Gastgeber von dem, vor allem im dritten Spielabschnitt berechtigten, Zittern erlöste. Ähnlich euphorisch wie seine Spieler zeigte sich Andras Feher nach Abpfiff, für den der PSV Stuttgart als Derbykonkurrent in Liga zwei ebenso neu ist: „Wir haben heute gut umgesetzt was wir spielen wollten. So ein Derby ist natürlich besonders für die Spieler ein Höhepunkt und so freue ich mich über diesen Erfolg.“ Zugleich mahnte der Ungar jedoch zu Recht vor einem Überschuss an Lorbeeren, die bereits diesen Sonntag wieder zur Debatte stehen dürften. Dann nämlich erwartet den jetzt Ligaachten mit dem Tabellenführer SV Würzburg 05 ein besonders harter Brocken und bestens etablierter Verein der zweiten Liga (Anpfiff 13 Uhr). Nicht zuletzt gilt es im Juni vorerst erkämpften „Derbytitel“ erfolgreich zu verteidigen – gegen den heimstarken PSV Stuttgart und noch zudem im Vaihinger Freibad, eine für an Hallenbadumgebung gewöhnte Cannstatter komplett unbekannte Situation, wird dies ein sicherlich nicht minder schweres Unterfangen.
