LEN European Water Polo Super Cup Finals
Unique double in Barcelona
Two finals at one place: for the first time both the men’s and women’s editions of the European water polo Super Cup will be held together on 21 November in Barcelona (ESP).
Barcelona will witness top-level club water polo once again after hosting the Champions League Final Six back in May. That event was a tremendous success, and in November more would follow as both Super Cup finals will be held in the Catalan capital.
The most prestigious trophies stayed in Spain this spring as Barceloneta won the Champions League while Sabadell retained its title in the women’s Euro League – so a great fiesta is in sight on 21 November. Though both Spanish teams will face a tough challenge: Barceloneta takes on Euro Cup-winner Spartak Volgograd (RUS) and Sabadell clashes with LEN Trophy-holder Olympiakos Piraeus (GRE). The renewed St. Jordi pool will host the matches and all action is going to be broadcasted live by TVE.
Last season both finals offered huge excitements as Crvena Zvezda upended fellow Serbian side Radnicki Kragujevac 9-8 while Sabadell edged Skif Izmailovo (RUS) 10-9 in Moscow – so the champions managed to add the Super Cup to their respective treasuries but it took huge efforts to overcome their rivals – and experts expect something similar this year, too.
